  • Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (Adults)
    Price: £1199 + vat
    This qualification is designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge needed to care for others in a broad range of health or social care settings. A Diploma in Health and Social Care is flexible to suit all fields of health and social care. Learners can select a pathway that suits their role - for example, working with people with a learning disability, people with dementia or children and young people. This is the main qualification required by the Quality Care Commission in England and the Care Councils in Wales and Northern Ireland.
    This is the recognised qualification for care workers and senior care workers in health and social care. To take the Level 3 qualification, you must be working in a care setting already. (For the Level 2 qualification, you may have no previous experience, or you might be working in care and want recognition for your current skills.)

    This qualification can help you succeed in a wide range of healthcare settings, such as:

    • residential care
    • community and primary care
    • acute health environments (eg hospitals)

    The Department for Education has now published the outcomes of the recent consultation into the literacy and numeracy requirements for Level 3 Early Years Educator (EYE) staff In England. 

    The requirement for Level 3 Early Years Educators to hold an approved English and mathematics qualification has been broadened to include other suitable level 2 qualifications, including Functional Skills. This will take effect from 3rd of April 2017. This means that GCSEs are not the only qualifications which will be recognised as meeting the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS) requirement to count in staff:child ratios and be recognised as Early Years Educators in the workplace.     The Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) and the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) are new qualifications designed to support learners who want to work in a care or management role in residential childcare and who have not previously achieved an existing relevant qualification. From 05 January 2015 learners who want to work in residential childcare will need to register on one of these two Diplomas.

    What opportunities for progression are there?
    Learners may progress onto the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) (4340-51). New residential care workers will need to achieve the qualification within two years from employment. This qualification will be the accepted qualification for registration and regulation where appropriate and can demonstrate continuing professional development. Who did we develop the qualification with? This qualification has been developed as the result of a review of the existing residential childcare qualifications and provision driven by the Secretary of State for Children and Families in light of the recent reports highlighting the shortfalls in residential childcare. It has been developed by the Department for Education, Skills for Care and Development and the employers in the industry.
    Is it part of an apprenticeship framework or initiative?
    This qualification will form part of the Children and Young People's Workforce Residential Care Pathway (England) Apprenticeship available from January 2015.

Your age

Currently you must be 24 or older on the first day of your course. From 1st August 2016 this reduces to 19 and over! With this in mind you can start your application now for a Course start date on 1st August.

Your nationality or residency status

You must:

be living in the UK on the first day of your coursehave been living in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man for 3 years before starting your coursebe a UK national or have 'settled status' (this means there's no restrictions on how long you can stay)

You may also qualify if you're:

  • an EU national or a family member of one
  • a refugee
  • a migrant worker
  • the child of a Swiss national
  • the child of a Turkish worker

NB: Previously funding also considered your prior achievement e.g. you could not undertake an Advanced Apprenticeship if you had a degree for instance. This IS NO LONGER the case here.
